Staff Leisure & Recreation

Staff Club

The Staff Club offers a socialising area for all Senior Staff Members (all Teaching Staff & Senior Support Staff). The facilities of the Staff Club include a Bar, run by a professional manager, a television equipped with satellite. The Staff Club is situated on the North side of the campus with the khonde door giving access straight onto the nine-hole golf course. The Staff Club also has a bowling green and an enclosed, well maintained swimming pool. The Staff Club is open every day of the week.

Kachere Golf Club

Since its inception shortly after the School's foundation, in the early 1980s, the golf course has undergone continuous development to reach its present form, a nine-hole par 35 course which measures roughly 2,800 metres.

The Golf Club's facilities are accessible to the student population of Kamuzu Academy during regularly held supervised activities, allowing interested pupils to practise for up to three hours weekly as part of their extra-curricular activities programme. It also satisfies the recreational demands of staff members, although membership is not restricted merely to those on campus.

Kachere Golf Club, which is affiliated to the Golf Union of Malawi (GUOM), is committed to the development of golf within the local community and nationally. Supported by the GUOM, Kamuzu Academy hosted and sponsored the inaugural National Golf School of Excellence in April 2006, an intensive week of coaching for all the Development Players of Malawi, which, it is hoped, will become established as an annual event.

The premier tournament on the golfing calendar here is the national Open Strokeplay Championship, a two-day event hosted by KGC each year, typically in October. Other events are scheduled throughout the year, including a regular internal competition played on the last Sunday of every month.
