KADS is a new enterprise at the Academy involving drama performance. It represents Kamuzu Academy Dramatic Society and every person in the school is automatically a member.
The dates to remember over these coming months are:
June: Auditions for A Christmas Carol
September - December: Rehearsals for A Christmas Carol
October: Auditions for Shakespeare
December: performance of A Christmas Carol
January – April 2008: Rehearsals for Shakespeare
April 2008: Performance for Shakespeare
May 2008: Auditions for following performance (to be announced)
KADS intends starting with a popular Christmas story: A Christmas Carol. The story is a ghost story and can be enjoyed by everyone – it confronts us with the spirit of human kindness, being Christmas, rather than having any religious meaning.
Following this we expect to stage two Shakespeare plays in April. At a meeting held this April, students overwhelmingly chose:
A Midsummer Night's Dream
and
Romeo and Juliet
as their preferred choices. The performances will coincide with “Shakespeare 24”, a BBC inspired group who have been staging a growing number of school performances in April over the last few years. This year they expect over 1,000 schools to take part, all over the world. They have selected 7 schools to be featured; Kamuzu Academy is one of the seven, and the only school in Africa taking part and the only school in a developing country to be featured. Exciting times!
