These courses are those offered by the University of Cambridge (CIE). Each is well regarded by universities and employers throughout the world. Details of each course, including syllabus aims and assessment objectives, can be found on the CIE website at www.cie.org.uk .
Learning Objectives
These are pre-determined by the aims and objectives of the syllabus being taught (also available on the CIE website) and our overriding goal is to ensure these criteria are met. Each subject aims to increase the students' capacity for critical thinking and to encourage them to develop skills of analysis and problem solving through the application of Economic laws, Legal rules, or Business skills and as such they each provide a relevant education that will provoke thought and enable them to compete in a modern, changing world. After the successful reintroduction of Law at AS level in 2006 - 2007, when results were among the best in the Academy, Law is now offered at both AS and A2 levels.
These subjects are especially suited to students who have an interest in what is happening in the world today and who have an open, enquiring mind along with the ability to think rationally for themselves. Each course provides a sure foundation for further study in its own right, or indeed for any Arts or Business-related subject either in Higher Education or in Vocational training.
The department is fully supportive of all its students. We understand the difficulties of studying a new subject at this level and offer help, guidance and support at all stages of the course either in class or individually by arrangement. We expect our students to play their part through questioning, debate, and enquiry.
