Location and Climate

Mount Kasungu lies 20km to the West of the Academy and is the site of Nguruyanawambe Palace.

We are located in the Central Region, 150km from Lilongwe, the capital of Malawi and site of Kamuzu International Airport. Blantyre is approximately 480km to the South, with Mzuzu about 340km to the North.

Mtunthama stands 1158 metres (3798 feet) above sea level, only 30km from Kasungu. The climate for most of the year is warm, with little variation between night and day temperatures. The months of May to August are relatively cold, the rainy season is generally from November to April.

Being located in one of the productive tobacco regions of Malawi, smallholders and commercial farmers grow tobacco, maize and coffee in the surrounding areas.

From the Academy the wide horizons of gently sloping hills may be seen, and the beautiful natural environment of the Academy site is teeming with birds.
