Applications for Forms 1 to 4

Most students enter the school in Form 1 but there are occasionally vacancies in other forms, although we do not usually accept applications for Form 5, as this is the final year of IGCSE examinations. A student joining Form 5 will have already studies half of the IGCSE course content at their previous school and may well have been studying for different examinations or for subjects which are not offered at the Academy.

Applicants for places in Form 1 and Form 2 take two entrance papers:

  • Mathematics: 1 hour
  • English: 1 hour 10 minutes

Applicants for places in Forms 3 and 4 take three entrance papers:

  • Mathematics: 1 hour
  • Science: 1 hour
  • English: 1 hour 10 minutes

Applicants should be the following ages on 31st March of the year in which they take their entrance examinations:

  • Form 1: 10, 11 or 12 years old
  • Form 2: 11, 12 or 13 years old
  • Form 3: 12, 13 or 14 years old
  • Form 4: 13, 14 or 15 years old

Entrance examinations for entry to the new academic year, which commences in August, take place in the preceding May. The dates and venues of the entrance examinations are advertised nationally in newspapers and through social media.

Entrance examinations for entry to the 2024-2025 academic year will take place on Saturday May 11th 2024 from 8 am at:

  • Kamuzu Academy, Mtunthama, Kasungu
  • Capital Hotel, Lilongwe
  • Phoenix School, Blantyre
  • Mzuzu Hotel, Mzuzu

In order to take part in the entrance examinations, please email admissions@ka.ac.mw, for the attention of the Admissions Officer, Miss Florence Mapemba, with the following documents:

  • Download Form 1 to 4 Entry Application Form and emailing it to admissions@ka.ac.mw

  • Proof of age: this can be either a copy of the child’s passport, birth certificate or Health Passport
  • Proof of payment of the egistration fee of K100,000. Fees should be deposited at: National Bank of Malawi (Kasungu) Acc No: 457698 Acc Name: Kamuzu Academy Phoenix School, Blantyre
  • The applicant’s most recent school report

Results of the examinations are communicated directly to parents within 7 days of sitting the exams. At this stage, parents are asked to confirm their acceptance of the place and to pay a non-refundable deposit. New students together with their parents are invited to an Induction Day at the end of June, where the children have the opportunity to take part in sample lessons, meet their classmates, see the boarding accommodation, experience school lunch, ask their Tutor questions and generally get a feel for the school. Meanwhile parents tour the school, meet senior staff and are able to ask house staff questions about all aspects of school life.

Applications for Forms 6

Applications for places in Form 6 to study GCE A levels, are welcomed form students who have previously studied at Kamuzu Academy as well as those who have attended other schools until Form 5. A levels are a two year course with external examinations at the end of the first and second years.

Students who are in their final year of studying IGCSEs or MSCE can apply for a place to study A levels in the following year. Download Entry Lower 6 Application Form and emailing it to admissions@ka.ac.mw

Students may join Form 6 to study for A levels, if they have achieved the entry requirements of at least 6 IGCSE grades at C or above, including English Language and Mathematics. Students should also have B grades in the subjects they wish to study for A level.

In Form 6 students usually study 3 or occasionally 4 subjects. We offer a wide range of A levels including:

  • Business Studies
  • Design & Technology
  • ICT
  • Physical Education
  • Law
  • French
