
Kamuzu Academy Primary School (KAPS)
is a small primary day school on the campus of the main Academy. Originally set
up to educate the children of members of staff, the school has grown over the
years to approximately 120 pupils, who are taught in 7 classes; Reception, Year
1, 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6.
Classes run from 7:30 A.M to 3:00 P.M
from Monday to Thursday and up to 12:10 on Fridays.
Most pupils now about 2 thirds of the
school travel from as far as Kasungu town, to attend the school, which has 5
dedicated classrooms, 2 teaching classrooms, a school hall and library in a
school hall. It also has an extensive outdoor play areas and a small playground.
Pupils follow a Cambridge curriculum and is in its preparatory stage of acquiring
its own examination centre from the Cambridge International Examination (CIE).
The school offers; English, Mathematics and Science as
main subjects and Geography, History, from Reception to Year 7.
It also offers the following
additional subjects; Mandarin Chinese, French and Home economics to selected
classes. Physical Education (Athletics & Gymnastics, Swimming), Art &
Craft are taught across the whole school.
The School has 7 dedicated Classroom
teachers and 3 Classroom assistants with other specialists’ teachers from the
Academy’s High school teaching extra subjects.
Pupils are also introduced to a
number of clubs and extra curriculum activities such as; Computer club,
Environmental club, Drama & Music.
