CHERISHED MEMORIES

September 18, 2026 5:31 AM Kamuzu Academy

As we reflect upon our lives, there are moments we treasure and moments we dread; all of these experiences make us who we are today. It does not seem so long ago that you were in primary school, then Form 1, and before you knew it, you were writing Checkpoint in Form 3 and starting IGCSE in Form 4. Next, you are sitting your Form 5 final examinations, and then, voila, AS and A Level! The years go by in a flash. And all we have left to recollect these moments are our God-given memories. The beauty of memories is that they allow us to recreate those special moments and appreciate the times we have. I want to challenge you to create and recreate joyous moments and make the most of the opportunities you have here at Kamuzu Academy. Nothing is beyond your reach if you put your mind to it. You have nothing to lose but everything to gain, so make your time here worthwhile.

Challenge yourself to put meaningful effort into all areas of your life—academically, socially, physically and spiritually. Ask yourself, What am I doing differently this academic year? Dare to challenge your Goliath. It could be that difficult subject you have always struggled with, the fear of trying something new, or simply pushing yourself beyond your comfort zone. Join different activities, explore areas of creativity and discover opportunities for growth. Enjoy your friendships with kindness, forgiveness and a willingness to grow together. Express yourself respectfully and embrace every moment of laughter that makes your ribs hurt. These are the moments that, one day, you will look back on and treasure.

At the same time, embrace the moments that make you sad, because those too are moments of growth. They are evidence of being human, of being vulnerable, and it is okay. When life does not go as planned, pick up the pieces and once again find joy in the smallest of things. You are young, you have so much ahead of you, and this is a season of your life that you will never get back. So make the most of it. Create memories, take opportunities, challenge yourself, cherish your friendships and allow yourself to enjoy the journey. One day, you will look back on your years at Kamuzu Academy, and it will be the memories—not just the grades and achievements—that bring a smile to your face. Make these moments count. Wishing you all a fantastic day.
